Monday morning Snorkel Cruise!

The snorkel cruise is going to be Monday from 9 am to Noon on October 17. We’ll get picked up in the bay right in front of the hotel. Sunset Cruise

We'll be going out on the water for a sunset cruise one evening. It is a beautiful trip and a great way to visit with other un-conference attendees.

Ride like a Paniolo. Go trailriding.

Paniolo is what they call the Hawaiian cowboys who still work the big ranches up in the high country. We are hoping for a group outing on Sunday with amazing views. Or book your own tour with these operators.

Welcome Reception and Kureit Fund Raiser

We'll gather together for the sunset and to raise money for Kureit. A heartwarming way to get ready for a few days of great un-conference sessions and networking. On the Paniolo Terrace. Light appetizers will be served at 5:45. We'll have a cash bar.

Morning Sessions and Afternoon Networking

We'll have breakfast together starting at 8:00. Then educational sessions until about 1 pm. After that, we’ll break off for our afternoons and evenings into groups for networking, relaxation, family time, and enjoying the Big Island. Waikoloa Beach Marriott. Rooms:  Naupaka 5-6-7.


We'll have a new and improved format with more networking and personal meetings.


You'll experience a smoother system for presenting questions and topics for discussion.


We've added an additional cocktail reception on Thursday evening. 


Our sessions will include more breakouts.


We'll have more group meals so we can talk more about the topics that come up. 


We've got a new and very unconferency way to eat breakfasts together:


Breakfast  will be small group roundtables: meet a roundtable organizer at the Hawaii Calls breakfast restaurant or the Aka ‘ula Lanai coffee shop by the Paniolo Terrace at 8:00 am. The organizer will have a breakfast coupon worth $25 to give you. You pay anything over $25 for your breakfast. Sit together and talk through your questions or concerns. 


At  9:00 we'll meet  in the meeting room and get ready to go. 


9-10:30 is sessions and discussion. (two topics)


10:30 to 11:00 is a coffee break on the Naupaka Terrace and breakout conversations.


11:00 be back in the room for another session.


11:00 to 12:30 is the session. (two topics)


12:30 meetup with your old friends or new friends for lunches at one of the several restaurants close by. You cover your own lunch cost or treat someone else to lunch. 


After lunch…. Relax, enjoy, explore the big island. Meet up for group activities.

Session info:


Wednesday morning, we'll do introductions: You'll have 1.5 minutes  each to do your intros. Name, where you are from, role in your company, main area of interest.


We'll cover two topics in each session using this format to keep things rolling along: 


A presenter or expert in residence will use 15 minutes to frame the question or topic. That will be followed by 20 minutes of open discussion. We'll limit each comment from attendees to 2 minutes each. Then we'll take 5 minutes  for wrap up and conclusions. 


For group meals:

We'll have a restaurant list for lunches and dinners. Several places are within a ten minute walk. 


2022 is going to be a great experience and a very valuable investment for the future of your business.

Wednesday October 20




8:00 am. Breakfast and opening remarks. 


8:45 to 9:30. Travis Morrow. Brand Types of Tomorrow. How are product types and management approaches creating different classes of self storage brands? How will that look in the near future? Travis was unable to attend, so Anne Mari DeCoster presented this topic. 


9:30 to 10:15. Carol Mixon. Auditing for fraud. Yes, we still need to be vigilant and smart about preventing and identifying fraud in our businesses.  


10:15 to 11:00. Anne Mari DeCoster. Self Storage In the future. In order to imagine possible futures, we need to know where we are today and what influences and trends are important and impactful. Anne Mari will be leading a future-proof game all about self storage.  We’ll lay the groundwork for our self-storage future-proof game in this session.


11:00 to 12:00. Brian Massey. Conversion Science is a foundational activity to managing businesses, especially when so much business is conducted on-line and in-app. Get the full story from one of the inventors and leaders of this practice area. Includes live site reviews.  Submit your sites to us if you’d like a review. Email your website URL to Tron, and we’ll try to get to all of them.


12:00 to 1:00. Anne Mari DeCoster. Self Storage in 2031. We’ll play out the first moves in our future-proof game and explore the many possible realities we may face in ten years. 


After 1:00…. Free time to network, enjoy, and explore.


5:00. Luau seating starts for the Waikoloa Marriott Luau. Separate registration and payment can be made through the hotel. 



Thursday October 21

8:00 am Breakfast and introductions to The Waikoloa Dry Forest & Science Camps of America


8:30 to 9:15. Open Forum and Breakout groups. Let's talk more about the issues on the minds of attendees and the thoughts and impressions from yesterday's sessions. 


9:15 to 10:00. Steve Lucas. What Happens when a website performs? Let’s look at statistics and data from websites that were created or re-created with state-of-the-art customer experience approaches.


10:00 to 11:00. Brian Massey. Conversion Science School Day 2. What should you expect from your booking engine? We'll have some recommendations for you. We’ll continue our live site reviews as well.


11:00 to 12:00.  Anne Mari DeCoster. Self Storage 2031 & 2041. We’ll review our results from the first move of our future game and then play out move number two. Let's see what paths our trajectories could take and how our businesses could look in 20 years. 

 

12:00 to 1:00.  Dan Morisaku. Building Sustainable Businesses. Profit, People, Planet. These three are inseparable in thriving, long lasting enterprises. See how the three Ps drive successful businesses. This will be presented on ZOOM. Bring your laptops or other devices. 


After 1:00…. Free time to network, enjoy, and explore. We may schedule a snorkel cruise for this afternoon.


4:00 Join us for a sunset cruise. Sorry it sold out. If you are already registered for it, see you on the water!



Friday October 22

8:00 am Breakfast and introduction from Kure It and Janus International.


8:30 to 9:15. Danny Akaka, Jr. Hawai'i, the people and the place. Learn more about the amazing place we call home for this week.  


9:15 to 10:00. Bob Copper. Lessons learned from automating facilities. It sounds so simple to automate everything. Yeah, right. Let’s talk about best practices and the opportunities ahead for contact-less efficiencies. 


10:00 to 11:00. Anne Mari DeCoster. Self Storage 2041. We’ll examine the results of our second move in our future-proof game to see what our future could look like in 20 years. 


11:00 to 12:00. Brian Massey. Conversion Science School Day 3. How do you argue with your design agency? Data. That's how. We'll show you what to expect from your teams and agencies from a data standpoint so you can hold them accountable and not be left holding the bag. We'll do more site reviews and Q and A. Homework to do when you get home.


12:00 to 1:00. Open Forum. Roundtables. Wrap-up. Take-aways. Let’s talk through what we have learned, new questions we have, ah-ha moments, concerns we did not get to deal with this week, and opportunities we’ll work on when we get home. 


After 1:00…. Go for a bike ride in the beautiful area near our hotel with our expert in residence, Brian Massey. Or use your free time to network, enjoy, and explore.
